MC Green Student Club 2011
Sept 16 2011
During the Involvement Fest on the Rockville Campus this past Wednesday (9/14/2011), 20 students volunteered to join the MC Green Student Club. Only five students are required to operate a club. The number of volunteers and the commitment to sustainability they demonstrated was quite impressive. Many of the volunteers are studying environmental science. These new club members will help rejuvenate the college’s sustainability initiatives.

For the club’s members, this hour of action is an opportunity to reduce energy consumption and to send a message about the reliance on electricity.
Where Will the Lights Go Off? Individuals around the world will be shutting the lights off in their homes and businesses. In addition, major participation is planned in 25 cities, on six continents, including Chicago, San Francisco, Copenhagen, Sydney, Manila, Tel Aviv, Bangkok, Dublin and Toronto.

MC’s Recycle Mania Week 7 Update
Published at Mar 25 2008 12:00AM
Category: College/Campus News
The MC Green student club reports that, based on the first seven weeks of the college recycling contest, Montgomery College has tossed out some solid figures.
* In the Per Capita Classic competition, Montgomery College is 78th out of 142 nationwide
* In the Gorilla Prize competition, Montgomery College is 42nd out of 159 nationwide, third out of 5 in Maryland (beating both University of Maryland-Baltimore County and Frostburg State University)
Recycle Mania is an annual friendly competition among college and university recycling programs across the country. More than 400 schools are participating in the 2008 competition, vying to see who can motivate their campus communities to recycle more and reduce overall waste over a 10-week period.
During the competition, campuses go head-to-head in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. The contest began January 27.
Results are reported weekly on Fridays on the Recycle Mania website at: http://www.recyclemania.org
